The Greetham Valley Ladies Scratch Team, who are the defending Lincolnshire Ladies Scratch Team Champions, got off to a fine start in their first match of the year. Playing against Belton Park, Team Captain Gilly Grant led from the front with a fine seven and five win. County player Emma Tipping also had an emphatic win of seven and six. Liz Haughton who has recently returned to golf played in her first ever scratch team match lost three and two. Gilly said that Liz was extremely brave to take on a scratch match so soon after her return but did so well nobody would realise that she had been away from playing any sort of golf for several years.
Gilly and the team were thrilled to get off to such a good start against a strong Belton Park team.
The Lincolnshire Ladies travelled to Hawkstone Park Golf Club in Shropshire for County week. They played five days in a row with foursomes on the morning and singles in the afternoon. Their first game was against Staffordshire which they won by eight points to one. Leicestershire were their opponents the next day, the team won again six and a half to two and a half. Neighbours Nottinghamshire were up next and the result was the same, a win for Lincolnshire by the same score. Lincolnshire is renowned for being a friendly County, but this was a competition and even though their hosts Shropshire were up next the team didn’t take their feet off the gas, they won by eight points to one. On the final day they had to beat Derbyshire to get a clean sweep which they duly did by six and a half points to two and a half. A fabulous result!
This was a dominant display of team golf and the members and management of Greetham Valley are proud that Sophie Beardsall and Emma Tipping are once again members of the County team and played every day. The county finals will be held in Wilmslow, Cheshire between the 16th-20th September when Lincolnshire will be appearing for the fifth consecutive year. We wish Sophie, Emma and the whole team great success.
