Greetham Valley Reviews
We visited greetham valley golf club for the first time last weekend for our lovely daughters 60th birthday and were greatly impressed. We had booked a room which was an eyeopener, large with loads of space and spotlessly clean. What really impressed us was the comfortable beds. I would also like to say the food was extremely good , and the service was very quick and the staff was very pleasant and a credit to the hotel. We will definitely visit again in the future.
Twenty friends playing golf, what a great time we had! Fantastic food, the staff were very helpful, the beds were comfortable. Everybody made us welcome! The course is in great condition, will definitely be coming back!
We recently had a 16 man golf tour at Greetham Valley and had an absolutely great time. We played both courses, both of which were perfect for a golf tour (difficult enough for the better players but not hard enough to make the higher handicappers struggle). Both courses were in superb condition and the greens were outstanding given we played in October, we all felt the Valley course edged it over the Lakes course (do not be put off by the fact that the Valley course has 6 par threes, they are all outstanding holes). The welcome we received was superb and we felt that they really wanted us there. Food was great and the amenities were all you needed for a golf tour (bar, pool table, darts, bar!). All I can say is if you want to go on a golf tour, really consider Greetham Valley, it is one of the best we have been on.
Rooms above normal size, Comfortable beds, Very quiet area. Staff excellent and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Golfing haven but none of my party are golfers so suitable for everyone. Wonderful amenities close too for non-golfers to enjoy.
Stayed for 2 nights on a business trip. Great room with a fantastic view over the golf course ( Room 218 ) A great size room and great value for money. Buffet breakfast with a good choice, topped up frequently and piping hot. Had 2 evening meals chose to sit in the bar on both occasions. Food was fantastic I had lamb rump the first night which was cooked to perfection and had the black rock steak cooked on the hot stone the 2nd night. Staff young and very friendly and bar prices really reasonable for a hotel. All in all a great stay and would recommend to family and friends.
Recommended by a friend, and what a great find. Really friendly staff, both in the pro shop and the bar. Great value golf, and a superb conditioned par 3. Ate lunch in the bar area and it was restaurant class. The whole set up is first class. Well done to all involved, and we will be back.
Yet another great totally golfing two-day visit for a record number – 24 – of us this year. Year 7 on the trot? Same as usual I’m pleased to say – setting up the visit was made easy for us, hotel guys as friendly as you could wish for, accommodation spotless, dining arrangements extremely good and the food was first rate. See you all next year.
Spent a week at the “mill cottage ” excellent pet friendly accommodation with everything you could need… home from home.. Great facilities….. nearby plenty to do and places to see, need to go back just not enough time to explore everything.. spent too much time enjoying the onsite fishing ☺ ??? defo 10 out of 10 alround… ???
Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre came well recommended so I made contact in the hope that it would be a suitable venue for our 2015 Mickleover Golf Club senior’s golf break.
My first contact was with Gilly Ward (Golf Co-ordinator) and Gilly remained my contact throughout the organisation of our golf package (all conversations by email and the occasional telephone call). I was very happy with all my dealings which resulted in a three day golf package (Early May Bank Holiday) 4th, 5th & 6th May 2015; two night’s dinner, bed & breakfast for 24 golfers in single occupation rooms.
Once at Greetham’ we found the accommodation to be excellent and all staff very helpful. Arriving on bank holiday Monday we found the complex to be pretty busy but tee times were honoured and rooms ready (after the golf); there was one room not available due to an oversight but it was made-up quickly, problem solved.
During the booking process I requested that we might all sit together for meals preferably on round tables for eight! The restaurant manager gave us our own small function room, well-placed adjacent to the main restaurant. This was set out with three large circular tables as requested and ensured we could breakfast & dine together – excellent.
Buffet breakfast was very good from fresh fruits to full English with ample juices, tea & coffee.
Because of our group size we pre-ordered Dinners at breakfast time from an appetising menu of starters, mains & desserts. Both evening dinners were excellent, served piping hot with no delay & good service – I really recommend the ‘black rock grill steak’.
Drinks were a little more expensive than golf club prices but not as high as many hotels would charge and (unusually for a hotel) they do carry several good well-kept real ales. Wines were affordable with a reasonable choice of whites, reds & rosé.
Our comfortable twin/double rooms (with a small single rate tariff) included TV, tea/coffee, free Wi-Fi and loads of power sockets for charging gadgets, batteries, etc. Whilst some rooms face onto the car parks many have lovely views overlooking the golf course/s.
Car parking facility is plentiful, next to the hotel and very close to the 1st tees.
Golf: We enjoyed playing the longer Lakes Course (twice) and the demandingly hilly Valley Course (once), both courses being well presented and a good test of golf; for the less fit there are plenty of buggies available @ £18 per round (£20 from 2016)
Unfortunately the weather could have been better as it was wet with severe gales across all three days so our golfing ability was severely tried. Course conditions were pretty good for the beginning of May but be wary of the greens, they are difficult to read. I suggest that you consult the hotel’s website http://www.greethamvalley.co.uk/ to learn more about the golf courses (& hotel facilities) as their descriptions are not over-stated.
Finally the best testament to this ‘golfing hotel’ is that our group unanimously agreed that we should book again for next year. This done we are all looking forward in anticipation of another superb golfing break over the same period in 2016.
Returned for our 6th time to Greetham Valley with a mixed party of 12 golfers.
Two excellent courses with some challenging holes but quite playable for all handicaps.
The rooms are first class and the staff and service are absolutely magnificent from the reception, bar staff, restaurant, pro shop and even the course starter.
A special mention for Gilly Ward who organised our total visit – nothing is too much trouble and the detail is always perfect.
The food and choices from the restaurant where far above the usual golf break offerings and there is a lovely ‘golf club’ atmosphere – we have already booked for next year!!!!!!!!
Twentyfour golfers enjoyed a super weekend break. This is the seventh year we have been on our annual trip to Greetham Valley and the second time we have stayed in the lodges and we have booked again for next year. The lodges are well equipped and with plenty of space for six blokes and their golfing gear. We eat in the restaurant where the service and food is excellent.
The two golf courses are kept in excellent condition with the Valley course being our favourite.
Many thanks to all at Greetham Valley for making our break so enjoyable.
I’ve visited this hotel on quite a few occasions for business seminars, golf days and tournaments. The facilities here are good whether you’re in bar relaxing, having breakfasts before a meeting, in meeting rooms, eating barbecue for lunch in between a tournament or dinner afterwards. Have eaten here during an evening party after a tournament and the event was well organised with courses delivered relatively on time and together for a large numbers of guests. It’s always been a good experience. Staff member are happy to help, polite and friendly. The golf courses are scenic, well laid out and kept in really good condition, pleasing on the eye as you go round and challenging too but the views keep you calm. The site shop is adequately stocked, there’s changing rooms available with lockers and showers so you can freshen up straight from the golf course. You can reserve a golf buggy if you’re pushed for time or just feelings a little lazy, which is just fine with me at times. It’s a pleasant setting for meeting, networking and relaxing after.
Do not hesitate in booking this hotel. Great service, fantastic food, catered for my gluten intolerance superbly. The chef came and chatted personally with me. Rooms well equipped and spotless. Two 18 hole golf courses both of which are well presented and very testing. Some very scenic holes up and down valleys and over water. Couldn’t be better and fantastic value. Brilliant!!
My Husband and I had our Wedding reception here and we were totally overwhelmed by the helpfulness of the staff, especially Mitch! We found Greetham Valley on the internet and decided to take a drive out from Leicester and fell in love with the hotel and surroundings. We ate there a number of times and the food was fantastic. The choice of food we were given for our Wedding breakfast was out of this world and we opted for the Carvery! Great choice! Everyone LOVED the food and friends are still talking about the food and reception and how amazing it was! We were over the moon that our Wedding was such a great day. We have some amazing Wedding photos as the grounds are beautifully kept. We stayed in one of the lodges and can’t wait to return. We would also like to thank Hannah for looking after us on the day. The staff couldn’t do enough for us.
A big thank you for making our day so memorable! (We’re coming back for steak in the next couple of weeks!!)
We booked the hotel to have our 40th wedding celebration here We had a fantastic night which everyone at the hotel made it special for us.
I would like to mention a young man named Mitch Bardwell who sat with us when we were planning this event and listened to what we wanted and we got exactly that, he is a credit to the hotel. Everything went smoothly even when we changed some of the seating arrangements within the last hour of people arriving. The setting of the room and tables was excellent, couldn’t ask for any better.
When the food arrived it was so well organised it just went smoothly, everyone commented on the night, so thank you all for making some happy memories that will stay with us all.
So if you want to book a celebration here do because you will have no problems, I can highly recommend them.
This was the 5th year running my best mate and I have been to Rutland for a fishing and golfing break and we have stayed at this hotel. We stay for 4 nights and the rooms are clean and the facilities are excellent. We ate in the bar most evenings and be aware the portions are large!!
We have made a lot of friends in the village and a big thank you to Robert for arranging to get us there every night. We played the Valley golf course this year and were very impressed. It was nice to see the works ongoing to further improve the course and keep up the high standards the Hinch family have set for the hotel, golf courses and other onsite facilities.
It is also nice to see members of the staff still there from our first visit which must obviously help to keep things running smoothly.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for its high standards and all the onsite facilities. We will be back next year.
We stayed in one of their beautiful lodges and it was perfect in every way. Set in beautiful grounds and very well presented lodge with everything you could want. Lovely and spacious with a separate utility room with washer /dryer. Everything in the well stocked kitchen too. Would definitely come here again and very close to Rutland Water which is amazing. Well worth the visit to see the wild ospreys.
