Fraser Denholm was in the winners’ circle yet again, with a great round in the August Midweek Medal, taking the win with 77, the lowest gross of the day. Fraser, who started the year off 12, is now down to 6.7 and is trying very hard to get to 5. He puts his brilliant year down to hard work and great coaching from Greetham Valley professional Jim Hetherington. Fraser said that Jim has changed his game physically and mentally, not just with great swing training but by including help on both the psychological approach to the game and his diet. Ryan Tarrant took second on count back from James Cure and Elliot Clark. They all shot a net 72.
Peter Macdonald Pearce held his Seniors’ Captain’s Day on the Lakes course and the par three Academy course on Monday 6th. The format was full handicap stableford played on the Lakes and a quarter handicap on the Academy. Ninety percent of the field managed to get around both courses without getting wet but the rest made up for that by coming in soaked to the skin from the very heavy rainfall that hit in their last few holes. David Nicol won the eighteen hole stableford competition on count back from John Taylor, both players coming in with 42 points. David Aldred was third with 41. Andy Fisher took the win on the par three course with a splendid 21 points. The winner of the Seniors’ Captain’s Trophy with both scores combined was John Taylor.
