In the Club Winter League semi finals, Mick Carnie and Jim Kearney beat Andrew Queen and Dave Copley by three and two. They will now face Ian Bain and Dave Morgan who saw off the challenge from Karl Stokes and Neil Upton. Ian and Dave won four and three. Greetham Valley’s Winter League final will be held on the 25th of March.
Club Captain Jim Wheeler held his Captain’s Away Day at Ramsey Golf Club in very chilly conditions. After lots of hot coffee and bacon baps, the competitors ventured onto the course wrapped up against the cold wind.
In the individual competition, Graham Smith took first place with the best round of the day, forty one points. Bruce Strickland was second with thirty nine points and Greetham Valley’s proprietor Frank Hinch took third place just one point behind with thirty eight points.
Frank, Bruce and playing partner Wayne Terret also won the team game with a massive 103 points despite the fact that they only had three team members while most of the other teams were fourballs. Ten points behind and in second place were the team of Bob Green, Trevor Smith, John Sparks and Mike Waycot with ninety three points.
Mickey Turner took one of the nearest the pins while a rampant Bruce Strickland took the other.
Despite the cold, everybody enjoyed the day and look forward to the next Captain’s Away Day near the end of the year at a venue still to be decided.
