Greetham Valley’s C Team were away at Melton Mowbray this week. Team Captain Neil Sellars and his playing partner, Greetham Valley proprietor Frank Hinch, led the the team off and after nine holes found themselves three down. Over the second nine Frank chipped in from sixty yards to make that two down, a couple of holes later Neil did the same thing to bring them back to only one down. On the seventeenth Frank managed to sink a thirty five foot putt to level the match taking the game to a last hole decider. The pair halved this, with the Melton Captain expressing surprise that Frank missed a thirty foot putt for his birdie albeit by very little! The Greetham Valley team lost only one match on the day to record a four and a half to one and a half win. Captain Neil said that as most of the scores were very close, it could have gone either way.
The Seniors travelled to the Leicestershire Golf Club for the latest match in their forty five game season. The Leicestershire is a lovely course but it is very difficult for visiting teams as they have no par fives, only very long par fours. The Greetham Valley team managed to halve their match and Captain Peter MacDonald Pearce said that he was very proud of his team, as a half at such a tough course almost felt like a win.
John Sparks, who had what was very nearly a fatal car crash in Cottesmore a week or so ago, suffered damage to his vertebrae, ribs and lungs. John is in a lot of pain and breathing with the help of oxygen but hopes to be out and back at home in a week or so’s time. He said that he was overwhelmed by the amount of get well cards and texts that he has received since the accident. He said that it was quite humbling and would like to thank everybody for their support. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
