We are extremely proud of Greetham Valley’s Juniors B Team. Having reached the national finals of the Royal British Legion Poppy Cup, they went to Staverton Park Golf Club, near Daventry, for three days to play the semi-finals and finals of this competition. In the first of the semi-finals on Saturday Greetham Valley were drawn against Bondhay, who turned out to be the eventual winners; the team of Joe Sargood, Wilby Toothill, Winston Childs, and Cormac Calnan found themselves regularly giving two shots against high handicap girls who played exceptionally well but it was too tough a battle as Greetham Valley were pipped into the losers position. On the Sunday the team of Joe, Wilby, Izzy Haughton and Cormac Greetham Valley played for the third place spot but again missed out as the disappointment of the previous day effected their play. Overall, reaching the last four of a large national competition of 158 teams, this was a fantastic performance by a young team and all the players will reflect on the excellent job that they had done over the course of the summer. The Royal British Legion treated the team and parents very well and both parents and players had an amazing time. Junior Organiser Liz Haughton is very proud of how far the team has come, and is sure they will all gain a huge amount from the experience with these setbacks making them stronger. Thanks must go to our ever supporting parents and caddies who watched every shot and picked up the pieces when the games didn’t go as planned. Without them and our brilliant team this fantastic experience would not have been possible.
