The Lincolnshire Golfers’ Alliance visited Seacroft Golf Club on their tour of the north Lincolnshire clubs last Friday. The competition was pairs betterball stableford and was off white tees. The Greetham Valley pairing of Neil Harris and Shaun Denholm got off to a bogie start but they recovered when Neil parred at the next. After a nip of brandy to ward off the bitter cold, Shaun birdied the par three fourth to get the duo’s first two of the day. Neil reciprocated with a birdie at the par four sixth, after a couple of more pars for the pair, Shaun chipped in for another birdie on the eighth. After Neil parred the ninth the duo had a fantastic 22 points which in the cold and very windy conditions on what is considered to be the tougher of the two nines, was pretty spectacular.
Shaun followed a bump and run tee shot on the par three tenth with a tap in birdie to give the duo their second two of the day. Solid pars for Neil followed on 11, 13, 15, 16 and 18 to give them a score of 41 points. This was good enough to enable them to share the top spot with the Forest Pines team. However, the pair rued the mistake on the first that resulted in a dropped shot and stopped them winning outright. They did however have the consolation of bragging rights for being the best of the four Greetham teams – plus four bottles of wine for getting a brace of twos. The next stop on the Alliance tour is in January and is at Sandilands Golf Club near Skegness – which promises to be even windier and colder!
