In week sixteen of Greetham Valley’s twenty two week Winter Order of Merit, Fraser Denholm registered his second win of the series and added fifty points to his tally. On a cold and windy day out on the Lakes course, Fraser scored thirty seven points – enough to lift him to sixth place overall. The next three players all came in with thirty six points and had to be separated on countback. Dave Copley took second and Michael Fish third, just edging out Fred Aspin into fourth. Graham Smith was fifth with thirty five points.
Overall leader Adam Clegg on 226 points is still heading Bob Beverley who had a fairly unremarkable day by his standards: he still holds onto second with 208 points. The hard charging Graham Smith is third with 204.7 points, Dave Copley is only one point behind him in fourth. Neil Harris rounds off the top five, he is on 196.5. With less than thirty points covering the top five they are all looking over their shoulders at the ever closing pack.
There is a rumour that the final round, to be held on the Valley course on the 1st of April, might be a winner takes all double pointer – that would make it very interesting.
The snow had gone but the very chilly wind was still in evidence when the Seniors took to the Lakes course to play for the February medal. With the cold and rather blustery wind, the scoring was lower than usual and very close. Seventeen handicapper John Dowding won division one with a gross eighty seven, he took it on countback from nine handicapper Neil Lowndes who had to be content with second and the lowest gross for the division. Third and fourth also went to countback, sixteen handicapper Tim Howlett was placed third with a gross 88 from Fred Aspin off fourteen who had a gross eighty six.
In division two, Martin Hope who plays off twenty two won and also took the lowest gross with a sparkling ninety two. Twenty four handicapper Peter Palmer was third with a gross ninety five. Third and fourth had to be decided on countback, twenty handicapper Barry Tillotson who had a gross ninety three took it from John Morfee off twenty four who came in with a gross ninety seven.
