Greetham Valley’s Seniors extended their unbeaten run to seven with a six and two win over visitors Whetstone Golf Club. Keith Stafford, playing his first match with the Seniors, and his partner George Cooper who is eighty four, won their game by six and four. Captain Peter MacDonald Pearce was very pleased with the win and now is looking forward to welcoming Burghley Park to Greetham Valley this week.
The Seniors’ June stableford was held on the Valley course on yet another rainy Rutland day. John Taylor won the competition with a splendid thirty eight points despite starting his round off with a blob on the first hole. John had a further blob on the seventeenth but his thirty eight was enough to give him the win in division one, he was cut to sixteen. Eight handicapper Neil Lowndes came second with thirty seven points. Another eight handicapper, Ken Porter was third on count back from Keith Goodwin and Tim Howlett, they all scored thirty six.
The best score of the day went to Chris Dawson in division two, he came in with a massive forty three points. Chris said that he made some silly mistakes on some holes but managed to take advantage of good tee shots on others, he was particularly pleased with the birdie on the difficult par three sixteenth. Peter Palmer was second with thirty four points. Mel Clark took third on count back with thirty three points from Radley Wardhaugh, Trevor Davis and Peter Wood.
The scoring was very tight in the Gents’ June midweek stableford, the top three all came in with forty one points and were separated on count back. Eleven handicapper Geoff Williams took the win and was cut to ten, sixteen handicapper Tyrone Moreno-Melgar was second and was cut to fifteen. Peter Bagshaw off eight came third.
