The South Lincolnshire Junior League finals took place at Boston Golf Club this week. Greetham Valley has beaten all of their local rivals to make it to the final along with Spalding, Tydd St Giles and Belton Woods. This is the culmination of League matches held throughout the South Lincolnshire area over the past four months.
The format is match play, with each player competing against a member from each club in their four ball. Greetham Valley’s Juniors’ Captain Ryan Tarrant was off in the first game. Accompanied by caddie Fraser Denholm, Ryan won one match but lost the other two to give Greetham Valley two points. Will Chamberlain teed off in the second match with Club Captain Jim Wheeler as his caddie. Unfortunately Will was up against very tough opposition and lost all of his matches. Sam Ewing teed off in the third match with caddie Fred Aspin; Sam won his first match by seven and six, his next by three and two and his third one up. This gave the Greetham Valley team some hope and six more valuable points to add to Ryan’s two. Bobbie Elsigood ,who had holed a fantastic putt in Greetham Valley’s final game in their league to get them to the final, was up against three very good players and didn’t win any of his games.
Greetham Valley finished a disappointing third, Tydd St Giles were fourth, Belton Woods took the runners up spot but the champions of the southern league were Spalding Golf Club with a magnificent eighteen points, having lost just three games. They will now go forward to compete against the winners of the Northern finals to decide who will be the Lincolnshire Club Champions. The Greetham Valley team, led by Juniors’ organiser Pat Jones wish Spalding all the best in the final.
