A walk on the wild side in Rutland

For dedicated ramblers and those who walk purely for enjoyment, Greetham Valley is at the hub of some of the loveliest walking routes in the East Midlands. Step out from the Hotel entrance or your Lodge or holiday cottage and within 20 seconds you are on a route rambling up to the Viking Way – which runs 147 miles between the Humber Bridge and Oakham in Rutland!

The Macmillan Way and Hereward Way also all run through Rutland, offering magnificent views of Rutland Water, lovely chocolate box villages and rolling landscape. Rutland Water itself is a 26 mile round walk, taking in the Hambledon peninsula, but if short of time or daylight, try the shorter course of 18 miles, missing out Hambledon.

For those who prefer a stroll rather than a marathon, why not walk from Greetham Valley across the clearly marked paths on the golf course into the local villages and onto the huge Exton Park estate. Nearby Fort Henry on Exton Park is home to hundreds of swans and other wildfowl, offers a magnificent sight not be missed and is a 20 minute walk from the Hotel, Rutland Lodges and Mill Cottage at Greetham Valley.

Many enjoy bringing their four footed friends for ‘walkies’ – Mill Cottage and two of our Rutland Lodges are pet friendly and happily welcome dogs as long as their owners are well behaved and house trained!
