Greetham Valley’s Seniors section kicked off the first round of their 36 match season this week when they welcomed Thorney Lakes to a rather foggy and chilly Lakes course. Wrapped in winter jackets and facing a cold and foggy game ahead, they set out at ten peering into a gloomy Rutland landscape but after arriving at the new halfway house at the 10th a couple of hours later, the sun came out and they finished the games in shirtsleeves. The Greetham Valley team got their season off to a good start with a six to two win. Their next match is away to Belton Woods.
Ray Reynolds won the ten game Seniors’ Winter League with a score of 196 points. The format is stableford with the best five scores to count from the ten. Ray had it won after five rounds with an average score of 39.2 per round, quite steady for a twenty handicapper. Club Secretary Dennis Millington will no doubt have his eye on him when the qualifying competitions start in a couple of weeks time!
Nineteen handicapper Radley Wardhaugh took second place with 192 points. The only low handicapper in the top five was Neil Lowndes who plays off nine, he took third with 186 points. Charles Guttridge off twenty was fourth, only a point behind Neil with 185. Seventeen handicapper David Aldred rounded off the top five with 184 points.
