A very Happy New year to you all!
As the 2016 Ladies’ Captain, I would like to start by saying thank you again to Cathy Steele for such a great year and for all she has done to prepare me for this year. Another BIG thank you to Annie McCulloch for agreeing to be my Vice-Captain; I am thrilled to have such a well-respected and experienced lady to assist me. Thanks also to Gilly Grant whose knowledge and experience will be invaluable to me this year, to Sheila Douty who will be organising the Ladies’ League matches and to Bev Dolman who will continue to be our County representative and also act as treasurer for the ladies section.
Getting to know you…
So, moving forward into 2016, I am really looking forward to being able to play during the week and especially getting to know the “Wednesday Ladies” better. Gilly has already put the sign-up sheets on the computer for January and these will be straightforward roll ups. I have planned a Waltz and Yellow Peril for February, but please let me know if there are any formats you would particularly like to play in future months. The Winter Order of Merit will continue on Saturdays (weather permitting) and the Eclectic is also still running, thank you to Jackie and Chris for running these. The Ladies v Seniors competition at the end of last year proved to be a great success and so I have been discussing with Mel Clark, the Seniors’ Captain, the possibility of arranging one or two mixed roll ups on Wednesday mornings, so watch this space for more details in the next couple of months.
Speaking of competitions, congratulations to Sheila Douty who is the gold medal winner for 2015 with a brilliant -7. Gilly Grant was 2nd and Jackie Friend 3rd – well done ladies. Sheila will now go forward to the regional final to be held in May this year. Good luck!
Ladies’ Away Break
We have a very busy calendar for 2016 and diaries are now available from the Members’ Office so you can keep busy on these long cold evenings planning your golfing year and looking forward to the summer. Which brings me nicely round to our Ladies’ away break. Details are on the notice board in the locker room. The cost of the break is £222 and a non-refundable deposit of £35 is required. This is an absolute bargain and Helen and Gilly have lined up a fabulous venue for us.
2016 Captains’ Charity and Fundraising
This year’s Captains’ charity is Dove Cottage Day Hospice. Situated in Stathern in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, the hospice offers day care to those living in North East Leicestershire, Rutland and South East Nottinghamshire with supportive and palliative care needs. If you would like to find out more you can visit the web site at: www.dovecottage.org
The Captains have decided to take a slightly different approach to fund raising this year and so New Year’s Day saw the launch of the 2016 Members Prize Draw. The draw is only open to members and half of the funds raised will go back into the members’ fund to support other events and in particular, the Captains Weekend. The first prize is a one year membership for GVGC, second prize is a four ball at the prestigious 5 star Grove Resort in Hertfordshire which is the venue for this year’s British Masters and third prize is a custom fit Ping driver, four ball at Gainsborough and a tour of the Ping factory. Other prizes include a named parking space at GV for one year and a 9 hole playing lesson with Neil Curtis. This is a great opportunity to support a worthy local charity and your own club whilst having the chance of winning a fabulous prize. Entry forms are available from the club house and golf shop and you can enter as many times as you like. You can also download a form by clicking here. And click here to see the Prize Draw Terms and Conditions. Good luck!
