Our return to golf – UPDATED

Step by step return to the fairways – this list is provided as a summary of the hygiene and social distancing measures we are all required to follow on our return to the fairways.


Before leaving home

  • most importantly, if you or any members of your household are experiencing any symptoms, please stay at home and follow all the advice provided by the government and on the NHS website
  • you should not visit the Club if you have returned from overseas within the last 14 days
  • travel to the Club by car should be alone or with members of the same household
  • all tee times must be pre-booked and all names entered, and maintained if any changes, for track and trace purposes, which is a key part of stage 2 control. You must not turn up at the Club without a pre-booked tee time
  • all tee time intervals are set at 10 minutes
  • please only leave home to arrive at the club no more than 15 minutes before your pre-booked tee time

On arrival

  • be aware of car parking spacing and remember to maintain social distancing when exiting your vehicle. Please remain in your car, only exiting to allow enough time to register at the shop entrance and arrive at the tee no more than 2 minutes before your tee time
  • change shoes and assemble your golfing attire in the car park
  • snacks, golf balls and necessities for your round will be available for purchase from the shop, but all other Clubhouse facilities will remain closed
  • two metre spacing will be marked in a number of areas around the perimeter of the building and access to the courses
  • all staff will be stringent with hygiene measures and be wearing appropriate PPE. Staff on duty are comprehensively trained on the importance of hand hygiene and cough etiquette. There will only be one member of staff on registration at any one time
  • observe social distancing always and avoid any opportunities to mingle
  • toilet facilities should only be used if absolutely necessary and all customers must follow the strict hygiene measures in place, along with entering and exiting on a one by one basis. Hand sanitisers are to be used on entering and exit
  • the driving range will be closed until we are comfortable customer flow is working in all other open areas of the Club
  • the practice putting green will be open but only to be used by a maximum of four people, ensuring social distancing, and only if your tee is currently occupied
  • scorecards can be provided but only one card per tee time and only handed to the nominated marker who should record all scores and retain the card in their possession for the whole round

On the courses

  • observe social distancing markings at the first tee, strictly avoiding any gatherings
  • during your round continue to maintain social distancing, particularly mindful when on teeing grounds and putting surfaces and when walking down fairways
  • ball washers will be out of use
  • bins, rakes, tee markers and benches have all been removed
  • please do not spend any undue time searching for your ball
  • bunkers should be smoothed over with your foot/club after use. You may agree to place your ball in the bunker if the lie is poor
  • flagsticks must be left in and hole inserts have been installed to avoid players touching the flagsticks
  • when players are on the putting green it is recommended the first player putts until holes out before the second player then putts and holes out
  • ‘generous’ gimmes apply to avoid putting out from short distance
  • remember not to pick up another player’s ball, equipment or any stray ball
  • no handshakes or high fives
  • if a ball is lost or unplayable do not return to play another
  • hazard markers should be treated as immovable obstructions
  • wait for those in front to leave the tee before accessing the teeing ground
  • trolleys and buggies will be available for hire and sanitised after every use. Buggies to be for single person use only unless from the same household
  • no hire sets will be available
  • no trolley or shoe cleaning facilities will be available
  • the toilet facilities on The Valley Course will remain closed until further notice
  • starter’s hut and vending machines will remain closed

Leaving the course

  • hands should be sanitised using the facilities on the exterior wall of both changing rooms
  • please return straight to your car, taking all your equipment and any rubbish home with you
  • following your round, if you experience any Covid-19 symptoms please call the Club so that we can implement track and trace measures
  • the full details of the track and trace app are as yet unknown but this will need logging by the individual too
